17 | 03 | 2009
UTRECHT, 13th March 2009 – On Friday 20th March, Deputy Minister for Defence Jack de Vries will drive the first pile for construction of the Kromhout Barracks in Utrecht. The barracks will provide employment for around three thousand people.
The headquarters of the Royal Dutch army and parts of the Support Command and Defence Materiel Organisation are to be housed on the existing site of the Kromhout Barracks (at the Herculeslaan in Utrecht, opposite FC Utrecht’s football stadium).
Construction of the initial two thousand workstations is expected to be complete by the end of 2010, and an extra contract was signed two weeks ago for realisation of another thousand workstations. The complete Kromhout Barracks is expected to be complete by the end of 2011.
Komfort will realise, exploit, manage and maintain the Kromhout Barracks. Komfort has incorporated all the elements of the design, building, finance, facilitary services, maintenance and operational services in an integrated 25-year so-called DBFMO (Design, Build, Finance, Maintain, Operate) contract. The total contract represents a value of around € 450 million.
Komfort is a cooperation between Ballast Nedam, Strukton and John Laing, who have teamed up with Meyer en Van Schooten Architects, Karres en Brands landscape architects and ISS Facility Services.
