Strukton Systems has invented an innovative solution to save energy at railway stations. The idea involves a smart use of energy that is released when the train brakes.
The energy that is released when the train slows down to stop at the station can be stored in a storage system at the station, where it can also be used, for example for the lighting of the platform.
The idea of Strukton, electrical energy saving, is one of the eight nominated innovations of ProRail’s biannual competition. The question of the 2008/2009 competition was ‘How to reach Kyoto between The Hague and Utrecht?’
The eight ideas can be found on www.zoinvesteerik.nl, a Dutch site were visitors can bring out their vote by making a virtual investment in the idea that they like the most. The idea with the highest investments wins the prize.
The Dutch minister of Housing, Regional Development and Environment will announce the winner on June 3rd.
