DEN BOSCH, 1 April 2008 – The first prefabricated, sandwich brickwork wall unit of the new Jeroen Bosch Hospital was put in place on Tuesday, 1 April. The hospital’s exterior wall, totalling a surface area of around 27,000 m², will be constructed using these sandwich wall units – produced, delivered and fitted by Hurks Oosthoek Kemper. The wall units consist of 250 to 300 mm of concrete and 110 mm of insulation material, with an outer brickwork layer. Because the brickwork, frames and windows are all prefabricated and fitted, a great deal of time can be saved and the exterior wall can be built largely without requiring the use of scaffolding.

The sandwich structure features a 40-mm cavity between the insulation and brickwork layers. If everything goes according to plan, the entire facade will be in place by March 2009. Expectations are that the highest point in the wall will have been reached by October this year.

With a floor area of 120,000 m², the new Jeroen Bosch Hospital will be the biggest non-university hospital in the Netherlands. Its construction should be complete by 2011. In order to achieve this goal, around 600 m² of new floor area must be completed daily.

Together forming the Jeroen Bosch construction combine, the new hospital is being built by Ballast Nedam Bouw Speciale Projecten, Hurks van der linden and Strukton Bouw & Vastgoed.
