UTRECHT, 2 July 2008 – The rolling stock concourse for NedTrain in Haarlem, built by Strukton Bouw & Vastgoed in the 2006/2008 period, has been nominated for the National 2008 Steel Award. The biennial award is intended as recognition for the inspiring application of steel in buildings, road construction and water works, and the visual arts.
A total of fifteen construction projects have been nominated for the National 2008 Steel Award. The panel of judges selected the candidates from a group of 149 participants in several categories including utility construction, industrial construction, housing construction, infrastructure, characteristic steel building components and visual art. The panel assessed the projects on the basis of concept, context, design and implementation methods, and (intended) environmental and sustainability performance.
The rolling stock concourse in Haarlem has been nominated in the utility construction category. The concourse is more than 190 metres long and consists of a steel structure of curved trusses on concrete pylons covered with interior steel sheeting. The entire structure extends through the facade.
The prestigious award will be handed over this year for the 17th time. The lucky winners will be announced during the National Steel Construction Day to be held on 23 October in Gorinchem.
