Strukton compensates CO2 emissions with Gold Standard Certificates from Essent

18 | 09 | 2009

Power company Essent and construction company Strukton have signed a framework agreement on the provision of Gold Standard Certificates. Over the next three-year period, Strukton will be compensating for its CO2 emissions with Gold Standard Certificates, the highest available standard in climate compensation.

“With the Gold Standard, Strukton is further shaping its profile as a company that assumes corporate social responsibility,” says Piet Fischer who heads up Facility Services at Strukton. “By offering these certificates, Essent has also succeeded in differentiating itself favourably from other supply companies. In the months ahead, we will be taking up as many energy contracts as possible within the scope of the framework agreement for our fifty Dutch establishments. The asphalt production companies will follow at a later date.”

“The Gold Standard complies with the most stringent requirements for climate compensation and is only awarded to new sustainable projects,” says Auke van Stralen, Value Chain Development Manager at Essent. “Strukton’s ultimate objective is to establish CO2-neutral operations and we intend to help the company do so. This is the first agreement of this nature.”

By opting for these certificates, Strukton will not only be compensating for its CO2 emissions, it will also be contributing towards sustainable energy applications in the future. As such, Strukton is supporting the transition from fossil fuels to cleaner, more sustainable energy sources.

Gold Standard
The Gold Standard is an independent stamp of approval, co-founded by the World Wide Fund for Nature in the Netherlands (Wereld Natuur Fonds – WNF). Validation of projects in line with Gold Standard requirements and verification of actual CO2 reductions can only be conducted by an independent organisation accredited under the UN Climate Treaty to carry out such reviews.
