Strukton makes travel without timetable possible sooner

08 | 05 | 2009

UTRECHT, 8 May 2009 – Acting on its own initiative, Strukton Rail submitted a proposal to rail infrastructure management body ProRail to rapidly introduce a ten-minute schedule for intercity and sprinter services in the main Amsterdam – Eindhoven travel corridor.

This would make the Minister of Transport, Public Works & Water Management and the Dutch House of Representatives’ hope of timetable-free rail travel achievable within the current cabinet term.

In anticipation of the implementation of the High Frequency Rail Transport Programme, Strukton Rail’s proposal will make it possible for six intercity services and six sprinter services to be operating in both directions by the end of 2012, requiring only a relatively limited investment. Additionally, three route sections will remain available for transporting goods every hour. In addition to improving travel times in the short term, rail capacity will almost double.

Should budgetary constraints play a role, Strukton Rail is prepared to consider prefinancing as an option.

ProRail is currently studying Strukton’s plan that was submitted in accordance with the new unsolicited proposal procedure.
