At the beginning of December 2009, Strukton received two certificates for the ProRail CO2 performance ladder: Strukton as a whole is now certified for level 3 and Strukton Rail for level 4. Strukton is the first company to satisfy these performance requirements in its entirety.
Scoring higher on the CO2 performance ladder means getting a higher virtual project discount: in short, a competitive edge. Thanks to achieving level 4, Strukton Rail will be awarded a virtual discount of 7%.
Expectations are that corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy and reducing CO2 emissions will begin to play an even bigger role in securing tenders. For example, the Directorate-General for Transport, Public Works and Water Management has already announced its intention to adopt the ProRail CO2 performance ladder with effect from next year. Thanks to the energy management system implemented Strukton wide, Strukton Civiel is, in any event, well prepared to comply.
Strukton has realised its ambition of achieving an annual reduction in CO2 emissions of 2%. Strukton also plays a leading role in achieving greater sustainability awareness throughout the chain and initiating action. As such, renewed and more focused policy has been formulated for
CSR-compliant purchasing, which, for example, means that suppliers will be required to sign a sustainability declaration with effect from 1 January 2010.
