Strukton submits NRU plan in public consultation procedure

On 6 January 2009, Strukton submitted its own initiative plan for the Utrecht Northern Circular Road (Noordelijke Randweg Utrecht – NRU) to the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management in the public consultation procedure surrounding the initial policy document on the Utrecht Ring Road.

The Utrecht Ring Road is a major traffic concern, with congestion issues requiring urgent attention for several years. Strukton first presented its NRU plan in 2007. The plan could form part of the solution to the problems surrounding the ring road.
At the time, it was submitted at the company's own initiative to the ideas office of the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management. This office viewed Strukton’s plan favourably and therefore included it in studies surrounding the Utrecht Ring Road.

The Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management published its initial policy document on the Utrecht Ring Road in December 2008. Strukton’s plan for the NRU ties in well with the initial policy document. In order to again highlight its plan, Strukton has now submitted it in the public consultation procedure surrounding the initial policy document.
The strength of this solution for the NRU, lies in the clear separation of local and through traffic, fitting in well with the landscape and offering excellent accessibility to the city. Additionally, this solution can be realised relatively quickly and in compliance with the applicable air-quality and noise-abatement standards.
