UTRECHT 14 november - Within the scope of its recently completed project, Mergor successfully immersed five tunnel sections in Limerick, Ireland. The tunnel is 675 metres long and forms part of the Limerick Southern Ring Road Project, which will result in a new 10-kilometre stretch of road around the city of Limerick in the future. The construction sum amounted to €300 million. In cooperation with Van Oord, Mergor carried out the marine works by order of the PPP Concessionaire Direct Route. The Austrian company Strabag will now take care of rounding off construction work on the tunnel.

Mergor completed the immersion activities according to schedule although it did have to contend with extreme tide differences of around six metres during the project, which led to extremely strong currents. For this reason, the river crossing formed a critical part of the overall operation. The Mergor team will now be disassembling and demobilising the equipment.
