Strukton successfully installs first girders on the Hollandse Brug
17 | 03 | 2008
UTRECHT, 17 March 2008 – The Strukton/Reef construction combine successfully installed the first two girders on the Hollandse Brug during the night of Sunday, 16 March to Monday, 17 March. This serves to widen the western side of the bridge. In addition to being reinforced and resurfaced, the bridge will also be widened by two metres on either side.
Measuring in at a height of 3.2 metres and a length of 50 metres, the girders were made by Spanbeton. Each of the girders weighs approximately 165 tons. Spanbeton used pontoons carrying heavily loaded trucks to transport the girders from its home base in Koudekerk aan den Rijn for delivery in Muiden. The installation process was carried out using previously supplied strips. Caterpillar cranes were used to get the job done. Girders of comparable proportions were last installed in 1990.
