WorkSphere signs implementation agreement for intelligent camera security

UTRECHT, 14 May 2007 – In mid-May, the IICC foundation and WorkSphere signed an agreement for the Incident-driven Intelligent Collective Camera security system (IICC) for the city of Heerlen. The foundation, which unites industrial estate Management Parkstad, the business associations and the municipality of Heerlen, aims to install the security system in two industrial estates in Heerlen.

WorkSphere developed an overall concept for the detection and registration of camera images. Using special software and intelligent cameras, images are registered in two incident rooms. This serves to separately register images of the public domain and private areas using a single observation system. Specifically within the context of this innovative solution, WorkSphere entered into unique partnerships with KPN (super-fast fibreglass connections) and C&N (incident room technology).

The IICC system is so advanced that it only swings into operation if a person emerges within a secure area. At that point, live footage can be observed from the incident room. The cameras can be set in such a way that lights can be switched on remotely, gates can be opened or closed and potential intruders can be cautioned by way of an audio connection.

Expectations are that the system will be in operation by the end of 2007. The project is partly financed (50%) by the municipality of Heerlen and Ministry of Economic Affairs. Financial responsibility for the remaining half will be carried by the combined businesses located within the industrial estate. Partly based on KPN’s contribution, a number of benefits have been created for the businesses concerned.
They will be able to make use of attractive, low-threshold fibreglass network connections. Additionally, the exact same transmission resource can be used for conveying both data and camera images.
