Strukton has set down its vision on health and safety, and environmental policy in a policy statement. This document serves as one of the pillars supporting Preferred employer programme and has led to a new way of assessing health and safety costs. The standard health and safety contract has developed into a broader contract placing us in a position to adopt more of a preventative approach, taking everyone's needs into account.
Striving to achieve a safe working environment also serves as the premise of the Strukton-wide Zero Accidents campaign. The campaign kicked off with a pilot project for the Strukton building site standard in 2008. Developed in-house, each of the team members can use this checklist to assess building site safety and, more importantly, discuss possible differences in their respective evaluations. In this manner, safety will become a standard component of all working procedures, leading ultimately to fewer accidents.

A tidy building site not only contributes towards improving the safety and well being of all employees, but prevents failure costs and unnecessary loss of or damage to equipment and materials. It also makes a more reliable and professional impression on existing and potential customers and the surroundings.
Accident figures
Accident figures are expressed on the basis of the accident frequency index (IF). The following formula applies: IF = 1,000,000 x absenteeism accidents / hours worked.
The IF in past years:
2004: 15.8
2005: 11.1
2006: 11.4
2007: 7.0
2008: 9.0
