01 July 2014

On behalf of the Swedish railway manager Trafikverket, Strukton Rail will reconstruct the Söderås railway line in the west part of Skåne during 2015. The preparatory work on the construction of access roads along the railway line will start already in August 2014.

The Strukton contract is the second stage of a three-stage reconstruction project which aims to both secure level crossings and increase the railway capacity for faster and heavier trains. Upon completion of stage three, the reconstructed Söderås railway line will be able to accommodate a steady flow of passenger trains, which will improve opportunities for residents to commute to and from major cities in the region. The amount of freight trains passing through the ridge of Hallandsåsen will increase already after stage two.

The Swedish Minister of Infrastructure Catharina Elmsäter-Svärd officially kicked-off the second stage of the project on 19 June 2014 at the Billesholm railway station. She was accompanied by representatives of Strukton Rail, Trafikverket and the municipality of Bjuv. Despite rainy weather the inauguration was well visited by residents who were interested to know more about the planning and completion of the project. The renewal work will have a great impact on the people and nearby surroundings, during the project and when the reconstructed track will be ready to accommodate more, heavier and faster trains. The Bjuvs Municipality has long been looking forward to see more trains on the Söderås railway line. The initiative now under way is important for regional growth in both the short and long term.
