The Swedish railway provider Trafikverket has awarded Strukton the maintenance contract for the rail infrastructure in the southern Stockholm area. With double track included, the contract includes 310 railway kilometers. The contract is effective from 1 October 2014 and will be valid for five years with a possible extension through an option of 1+1 years. The contract's first five years have a contract value of 367 million Swedish crowns (EUR 40.3 million).

The contract involves the maintenance of the Nynäsbanan (Nynäs Line) and the Västra stambanan (Western Main Line) between Älvsjö and Gnesta. The Västra stambanan is the main railway line between Stockholm and Gothenburg. The line is electrified and consists entirely of double track, except some four-track sections. The Nynäs Line is a 55 kilometer long railway line between Älvsjö and Nynäshamn. The line is electrified and double-track on the 22 kilometer section from Älvsjö to Västerhaninge. Strukton will be responsible for the railway engineering, power supply, catenary and signalling. Repairs and corrective maintenance are included.

“We have been looking forward to assuming responsibility for these track sections. They will become a natural geographical continuation of the railway maintenance we are doing in central Stockholm, where we already have an established and effective group of technicians who know both the area and track system very well. The preparation of the contract start is in full swing.”
