The Chioggia Flood Barrier, part of the MOSE Project, is a barrier under construction in Italy to conclude the Venice Lagoon from the Adriatic Sea. The barrier will be constructed at the three entrances to the lagoon: at the places Lido, Malamocco and Chioggia. The barrier consists of a system of caissons in which movable floodgates are placed. The system is closed only during extremely high water, similar to the Maeslantkering in the Netherlands.

Each year the A.M. Schreuders Foundation hands out a prize for a remarkable achievement in the field of underground construction. The winning organization receives the prize for example an innovative construction technique or a creative underground solution.
