23 December 2015

Nineteen consortia have been selected to participate in the Shift2Rail programme as associated members, following a decision by the European Commission announced on December 8. One of the selected consortia is Smart DeMain. This consortium consists of Acciona, Cemosa, DLR (Deutsche Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e. V.), Fraunhofer IVI and is led by Strukton Rail. The participation in this consortium and the Shift2Rail programme enables Strukton Rail to take a leading role in the development of new technologies supporting significant improvement of the rail infrastructure. The consortium focuses on the design of the next generation of infra components and the maintenance of the infrastructure in a holistic way. The focus is explained by the consortium name: Smart DeMain, Smart Design and Maintenance for the railway of tomorrow.

The long selection process has been a good teaser to show that five different organisations can be extremely successful in working together developing innovative ideas that can make the difference. All partners are looking forward to materialise those ideas together with other Shift2Rail partners, including railway operators and infrastructure managers from 13 countries, as well as infrastructure and rolling stock suppliers, contractors, IT specialists, engineering service providers, research organisations and universities.
