Strukton Rail takes next step in optimising smart maintenance

Strukton Rail today announced partnerships with Siemens Mobility, Willow and Rail Restore on its stand at the InnoTrans 2018.

The partnerships mark a new stage in smart maintenance. Combining the power of the different companies will help to increase the safety, availability and efficiency of rail systems worldwide.

Strukton Rail’s vision that railway maintenance will be improved when using digitisation tools started twenty years ago, when the company initiated the development of inspection, monitoring and measurement systems. Strukton continued to develop these and other systems in the years following.

“Today, we are entering a new stage. We believe that today’s world asks for companies to combine their power. Each company brings its own expertise and experience. I am convinced that the partnerships we announced today will increase the safety, availability and efficiency of our customers’ rail systems”
Jacob Zeeman, CEO at Strukton Rail Nederland

Video Recognition Software
Siemens Mobility and Strukton Rail are combining their power to optimally use the opportunities of the IoT in smart maintenance and asset management. Together, the companies have developed an application that automatically recognizes incipient malfunctions on rail tracks before they actually occur based on automatic video recognition. The application combines profound expertise of Siemens in data analytics and artificial intelligence based on Railigent together with Strukton’s video monitoring system and extensive domain knowledge in the area of rail maintenance.

Holistic insight into assets and operations
Willow, a global digital company headquartered in Australia, and Strukton Rail are bringing 3D visualization of live data in an intuitive tool into the area of Rail. They are launching the Willow Rail powered by Strukton digital twin platform that can provide rail owners and operators with holistic insight into the assets and operations of an entire rail network, helping to maintain and operate networks. The platform combines Strukton’s vast domain knowledge in rail networks with Willow’s innovative approach and technology expertise in digital twins, providing valuable predictive, actionable insight into operations that improve the availability and reliability of rail networks.

Get worn rails back in shape
In its daily maintenance practice, Strukton Rail recognised a gap in the treatment of small defects in rails. With Rail Restore, it has found a partner that filled this gap through their water jetting technology.

“Rail Restore’s mobile cutting unit is a sustainable, revolutionary Innovation to get worn rails back in shape, without the disadvantages of grinding”
Jacob Zeeman

Strukton and RailRestore will market this as a full service into the market, preferably into the total package of state of the art measurement, planning, execution and reporting, thus guaranteeing 99.9% availability and over 20% reduction in costs.

“Together with our partners, we have the capability and willingness to insource lock, stock and barrel of the entire rail construction maintenance and infrastructure management ensuring continuous performance improvement at minimum costs”
