Works on Metro stations in Santiago completed

30 November 2018

In November we have completed the works on the five metro stations – Vivaceta, Cardenal Caro, Chacabuco, Conchali and Libertadores – in the city of Santiago, Chile. In summary, the project consisted of the construction of five ventilation shafts and five underground stations. The Strukton Arrigoni JV was responsible for the civil, structural, architectural and mechanical, electrical & plumbing works.

The interior and exterior works of all stations have now been finished. The stairs and elevators are in place, as well as the access doors to the metro, the entrance gates and ticket machines. On the surface, works have been carried out to enable access to each station, like benches, pavements and greenery.

Having to work on 5 different sites at the same time and to make sure to have all quality and safety requirements in place for a projects of this size, was the main logistic challenge in the construction of these stations.

At the peak of the project we had 650 workers at the sites and we have succeeded along the duration of the project to maintain the accident rate in good value and improve on this considerably.

The proposed solution by Strukton Arrigoni for the implementation of prefabricated elements for the complex architectural walls, resulted in a high quality result and a very satisfied customer about the efforts of the team.

Future plans

In parallel, we are working on an intermodal bus terminal that is located on one of the stations that we have executed for Metro de Santiago – Libertadores Station. The work is in full execution at the moment, focusing in the first phase of the project on the civil works (the buildings that will house the administrative offices, ticket offices and services). After completion, the construction of the pavements and the roof of the terminal will start.
